1. How we collect and use information

'Personally identifiable information' (PII) as used in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context.

When accessing the Website or using the application, we may learn certain information about you during your visit, but we only collect information that can be used to identify you as an individual when you provide such information directly to us.

Information you may provide us directly

You aren’t required to provide us with any Personally Identifiable Information in order to use our website; however, you may choose to provide certain Personally Identifiable Information to us such as your first name, last name and email address in response to optional prompts featured on our website. For example, information that you provide by filling in forms on our website, or when you register to receive information such as a newsletter, or contact us via the Contact page.

We may also retain the contents of any messages you send to us or through the website, and we may collect information you provide in user content that you post to the website.

If you purchase anything through the website, you may also provide us or a trusted third-party provider with the financial information required to process and fulfill your transaction, such as your first name, last name, phone number, postal code and shipping address.

Finally, we may now or in the future allow users to create accounts. If you choose to sign up for a user account, we may collect certain Personally Identifiable Information, including your username, first and last name, phone number, and email address.

Information we may receive from third parties

We may now or in the future receive Personally Identifiable Information about you from third parties. For example, if you access our website or app through a third-party connection or log-in, for example, through Facebook Connect, by “following,” “liking,” linking your account to the website, “liking” a particular cause or campaign featured on the website, etc., that third party may pass certain information about your use of its service to us.

This information could include, but is not limited to, the user ID associated with your account (for example, your Facebook UID), an access token necessary to access that service, any information that you have permitted the third party to share with us, and any information you have made public in connection with that service.

You should always review, and if necessary, adjust your privacy settings on third-party websites and services before linking or connecting them to this website.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information

We also collect and use information about your interactions with the Website in a manner and format that does not identify you as an individual (‘Non-Personally Identifiable Information’). We may collect, use, and disclose the following types of Non-Personally Identifiable Information:

Analytics information

We use third-party analytics tools to help us measure traffic and usage trends for the website and app. These tools collect information sent by your browser as part of a web page request, including the web pages you visit, your browser add-ons, your browser’s width and height, and other information that assists us in improving the website. We may collect and use this analytics information together with your Personally Identifiable Information to build a broader profile of our individual users so that we can serve you better, to improve the website service and for internal business purposes. We may disclose this combined information to our third-party business partners in an aggregated, anonymous form as described below in the section entitled “Sharing of Your Information — Non-Personally Identifiable Information.”

Google Analytics & Google Tag Manager

We use tools called “Google Analytics” and “Google Tag Manager” to collect information about the use of the Website, including the Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting feature. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit the Website, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to visiting the Website. We use the information we get from Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to maintain and improve the Website, and we may share anonymous statistical information from our use of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager with our business partners for such purposes.

Google Analytics collects the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit the Website, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to the Website is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Website, and the Google Privacy Policy.

You can prevent Google Analytics from recognising you on return visits to the Website by disabling cookies on your browser. In addition, if you want to prevent your data from being provided to Google Analytics, you can learn how to opt out using a Google plug-in.

Use of Cookies

Similar to other commercial websites, our website utilises a standard technology called ‘cookies’ (see explanation below) and server logs to collect information about how our site is used. Information gathered through cookies and server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, time spent at our site, and the websites visited just before and just after our own, as well as your IP address.

A cookie is a very small text document, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a website, that site’s computer asks your computer for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive specifically designated for cookies. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser’s preferences allow it, but to protect your privacy, your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites.

When you visit the Website, we may send one or more cookies to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and lets us help you log in faster and enhance your navigation through the site. A cookie may also convey information to us about how you use the Website (e.g., the pages you view, the links you click, and other actions you take on the Website) and allow us, or our business partners to track your usage of the Website over time.

A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser’s directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Website may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.

Log file information

Log file information is automatically reported by your browser each time you access a web page. When you use our Website, our servers (whether operated by us or a third-party provider) automatically record certain log file information. These server logs may include anonymous information such as your web request, Internet Protocol (‘IP’) address, browser type, referring / exit pages and URLs, number of clicks and how you interact with links on the Website, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed, and other such information.

Clear gifs/web beacons information

When you use the Website, we may employ clear gifs (also known as web beacons), which are used to anonymously track the online usage patterns of our users. In addition, we may also use clear gifs in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened and which links are clicked by recipients. This information allows for more accurate reporting and improvement of the Website.

Device identifiers

When you access the Website by or through a mobile device (including but not limited to smartphones or tablets), we may access, collect, monitor, and/or remotely store one or more “device identifiers,” such as a unique device identifier (“UDID”). Device identifiers are small data files or similar data structures stored on or associated with your mobile device, which uniquely identify your mobile device. A device identifier may be data stored in connection with the device hardware, data stored in connection with the device’s operating system or other software, or data sent to the device by the Website or appUse of . A device identifier may convey information to us about how you browse and use the Website. A device identifier may remain persistently on your device to help you log in faster and enhance your navigation through the Website. Some features of the Website may not function properly if use or availability of device identifiers is impaired or disabled.

Location data

When you access the Website by or through a mobile device, we may access, collect, monitor, and/or remotely store “location data,” which may include GPS coordinates (e.g. latitude and/or longitude) or similar information regarding the location of your mobile device. Location data may convey to us information about how you browse and use the Website. Some features of the Website, particularly location-based services, may not function properly if use or availability of location data is impaired or disabled.

IP Addresses

IP addresses are used by your computer every time you are connected to the Internet. Your IP address is a number that is used by computers on the network to identify your computer. IP addresses are automatically collected by our web server as part of demographic and profile data known as “traffic data” so that data (such as the Web pages you request) can be sent to you.

Email Information

If you choose to correspond with us through email, we may retain the content of your email messages together with your email address and our responses. We provide the same protections for these electronic communications that we employ in the maintenance of information received online, mail and telephone. This also applies when you register for our website, sign up through any of our forms using your email address or make a purchase on this site. For further information please see the email policies below.
